In world history there have been times of great growth and change, often referred to as renaissance periods. While many people only envision the renaissance period in Europe there were
many other periods of growth and development. The following paper examines the Carolingian, the Macedonian, and the Islamic Renaissance periods. The Carolingian, Macedonian, and Islamic Renaissance
The Carolingian is primarily seen through the development of Charlemagne and his restructuring of the culture it seems. One author notes how "His reign was
based on harmony which developed between three elements: the Roman past, the Germanic way of life, and Christianity" (Kreis). Through this focus of blending he truly created a strong "foundation
upon which European society would develop" (Kreis). Christianity was a very strong and important part of this Renaissance and as such he utilized this aspect of the elements in creating
a uniform Christianity and a uniform culture as he set about creating a Christian republic of sorts. During the Carolingian Renaissance there
was a great surge in other social and cultural elements. Education became far more important than it once was and handwriting as well as teaching Latin in a scholarly manner
became very much a part of the renaissance. In addition, coins were standardized, creating a strong foundation perhaps based largely on Roman culture and tradition.
