The Cancellation of the Constellation Program for more information
on using this paper properly The Obama administration cancelled the Constellation program in February of 2010. Some have argued that it was a negative decision. After
all, exploration is key to growth and canceling anything does not bode well for continued growth and prosperity. Was this a good or bad move? What does this suggest for
the future of American efforts in space? The answer is complicated. President Obama is not really cutting the space program. Rather, he is redirecting it in a way that makes
more sense. Going to the moon has been done. President Obama wants to take NASA to new heights. While his ideas are controversial because it means getting rid of everything
that has come before, his ideas have merit. Developing new technology seems to be a more practical choice than sending men to the moon again. While both is potentially rewarding
and life changing, the latter has been done before. President Obama is also willing to provide more funds to improve and enhance the NASA research programs. It is a sensible
idea. First, it should be said that the rationale for canceling the program is not evident on the surface. President Obama asked NASA to cancel the program that had expected
to return astronauts to the moon by the year 2020 (Chang, 2010). However, Obama did not do this simply to save money. He did not want to scrap NASA innovation.
