the world. Yet, it is not something that is often taught in schools, as it is more often than not saved for colleges and universities. In Michael Lings essay "The
Anthropology of Everyday Life: Teaching Cultural Anthropology in Schools," which appears in "Discipline-Based Strands" from "The Canadian Anthology of Social Studies" by Roland Case and Penney Clark, we find an
intriguing look at how and why anthropology should be taught in schools. In the following paper we examine his reasoning and discuss the validity of his essay. Anthropology
in Schools Ling begins by illustrating how anthropology is a study that is incredibly diverse, and a study that is often misunderstood by many individuals. Many people confuse anthropology with
archaeology, just as many people confuse astronomy with astrology. The fact that people are often unaware of what anthropology is all about suggests that they should have been taught in
schools the subject of anthropology. We find that "Anthropologists inquire into almost any domain imaginable, from fieldwork investigations into the ways of life of other, usually non-urban societies around
the globe, to armchair inquiry into such things as films, television and music of contemporary urban life. While anthropology may stereotypically be associated with National Geographic documentaries about lifeways elsewhere,
teaching it in schools can introduce students to a way of looking at and considering themselves in their own society and, importantly, to recognize themselves as culture-bearers and culture-makers" (Ling
