It is a story that presents the reader with a look at humanity through the eyes of the dog as the narrator speaks of Bucks experiences and thoughts as he
experiences life with humanity. It is a very powerful story that is not only entertaining but educational as well. The following paper examines why the author, London, may well have
chosen to show the dogs story through the dogs perspective rather than a humans. The Call of the Wild: Through an Animals Eyes
The same individual who stated, in the above, that it is the greatest of dog stories, also noted how this particular story is "a study of one of
the most curious and profound motives that play hide-and-seek in the human soul" (Kingman). This can, in many ways, be utilized to describe the story, the characters, and why the
story was written from the perspective of Buck rather than humans. If the story were written from the perspective of humans, as the narrator focused on human emotions and thoughts,
the reader would not get the unbiased, pure and clean examination of humanity. Through the dogs eyes the reader is given a very simple, yet powerful, look into human behavior.
Animals do not psychoanalyze human beings and so this pure presentation allows the reader to see humans as they are without regard to psychological wonderings.
In looking at the work and how it offers up such a view of humanity the narrator states "More tormentors, Buck decided, for they were evil-looking creatures,
ragged and unkempt; and he stormed and raged at them through the bars. They only laughed and poked sticks at him" (London Chapter I). In this the reader is not
