by aspects such as the political regime and legal framework, the economy of the country, the social conditions and influences as well as technological infrastructure the may, or may not
be, available. The influences of the environment may be direct and harsh, or indirect and subtle. The microenvironment is the small environment, internal to the firm all to the industry,
where there are influences that the organization sales may be able to impact upon, or influence. This may be perceived as the task environment, where the influences are limited to
the industry or the individual company (Thompson, 2007). The aim of this paper is to examine the environment in New Zealand, considering the external environment and the potential target environments,
and the way in which they may be impacting on museum businesses. The paper is divided into two main sections, defined by the macro or micro environmental influences, and is
written in a general manner to allow for the application two different firms or industries. 2. External Environment 2.1 Political Factors New Zealand is a parliamentary democracy, elections take place and
