Eastern religions share numerous similarities but there are also many contrasts. The primary leaders of these religions impress upon them certain
structure, belief, and ritual. When these leaders are mere men that have reached what in effect is god status within their religion, the interrelationships between the worldly and the
spiritual can be particularly interesting. Consider, for example, Buddha and Janisms Mahavira. Both came from royal, yet mortal, backgrounds. Both sought and received enlightenment. The result
in both cases was the formation of a religion that has had phenomenally important impacts around the world. Although these men are not these religions gods, they are the
most influential leader the respective religions have ever had. Sidhartha Gautama, the man that was to become the
Buddha, came from a noble background. His father was the ruler of his tribe and he was the next in line for the kingship. Sidhartha had the best
money could buy. This included not just the best home and the best clothing but also the best education. Most of his life he was protected from anything
that was less than the finest. Outside his small world, however, there were many problems and after his marriage and the birth of his son, Sidhartha soon encountered some
