the peripheral system is comprised of all the nerves in the body. Sensory nerves gather information from the environment, that information is sent to the spinal cord and then to
the brain all in the blink of an eye. The brain analyzes and makes sense of the information and responds basically given instructions to the rest of the body (Serendip,
2005). There are three main parts in the brain, the forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. The cerebrum, thalamus, and hypothalamus are part of the forebrain. The tectum and tegmentum comprise the
midbrain. The hindbrain is comprised of the cerebellum, pons, and medulla. These last three make up the brainstem (Serendip, 2005). The brainstem is the lowest part of the brain. It
connects the brain to the spinal cord and is responsible for numerous functions such as breathing (Johnson, 2009). The cerebellum is located near the brain stem. The cerebral cortex has
four sections that are called lobes, frontal, parietal, occipital, and temporal loves. Each lobe is associated with specific types of cognitive and mental functions. There are two parts of the
frontal lobe and as its name suggests, it is located in front of the brain (Johnson, 2009). The anterior or prefrontal cortex is directly involved with higher cognitive functions but
it also has an effect on a persons personality. The posterior or back of the lobe is comprised of pre-motor and motor areas (Johnson, 2009). The frontal lobe itself is
involved with parts of speck, problem solving, planning, reasoning, emotions, and movement. There are two parietal lobes, one is located on each side of the brain. It is behind the
frontal lobe at the top of the brain and each parietal does different functions. The right parietal lobe is involved with visual spatial functions and activities while the left
