information about what each neuron may do, how the neurons communicate with each other and how they adapt to new conditions (CNBC, 2009). We know that the brain develops many
different neural pathways and the more nurturing care is in early life, the more pathways will be developed. One place to begin is to consider the anatomy or the structure
of the brain itself. The brain stem, which is a part that is in the new a great deal, is located in the lowest part of the brain (Johnson, 2009).
This component connects the spinal cord to the brain and is responsible for many of the functions we tend to take for granted, such as breathing (Johnson, 2009). The cerebellum
is next to the brain stem in the back of the brain (Johnson, 2009). This part controls coordination, balance and a number of other functions, such as walking (Johnson, 2009).
The frontal lobe is in the front of the brain. Attention, planning, organizing, problem solving and a huge number of other higher order cognitive functions are controlled by the frontal
lobe (Johnson, 2009). The frontal lobe is comprised of two parts, the anterior also called the prefrontal cortex controls higher order cognitive functioning and impacts personality and emotions among other
things (Johnson, 2009). The back of the frontal lobe, the posterior, incorporates both pre-motor and motor functions (Johnson, 2009). The parietal lobes are on each side of the brain
