Numerous people throughout history have explored the question of how people deal with loss. Religion, in particular, has focused extensively on grieving. One of the more helpful of these accounts is the Book of Job in the Bible. The purpose of this paper is to compare the grieving process as it is delineated for Job and the grieving process described by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, a psychiatrist who first published her groundbreaking work in the 1960s. Loss, of course, comes in many forms. Our loss might be material, such as that we would experience with the loss of a prized possession. One of the most disturbing of the forms of loss, however, is the death of a loved one. Job experiences loss like no other man has ever experienced loss because God is convinced to test his allegiance. Throughout his life Job has been happy. He is wealthy with a loving family.
