the narrator who is less than sober or tasteful in his writings. In so many ways his work is incredibly humorous and very different from most anything that has come
out of the Middle Ages in terms of literature. The following paper analyzes the work and also discusses any appearance of Islamic context within the medieval Spanish experience.
The Book of Good Love by Juan Ruiz In this particular work, as mentioned, there are many different tales or perspectives concerning love from many angles. While there is a
primary character, Trotaconventos, it is, for the most part, a very humorous text that illustrates love in many conditions. It is about many love affairs that the narrator displays, and
it has often been compared to Chaucers Canterbury Tales in relationship to offering some insight into the time period. It is also a work that has essentially confounded many people
for a variety of reasons. According to one individual this particular work was written to alleviate boredom on the part of Ruiz because he was in prison, in a
dungeon and as such is nothing more than a simple fun work (The Book of Good Love of Juan Ruiz Archpriest of Hita, 2007). There are those who call Ruiz
a clear pagan, and yet others who argue that his work was developed from many ancient texts, including the Bible, Arabic texts and the works of philosophers. It is, as
