Edition The Book of Revelation is without doubt the most debated book in the Bible. Filled with symbolism completely foreign to the modern reader and theologian, this last book in the Bible is said to contain predictions and forecasts of the end of the world, of Gods wrath and punishment of His people who have rejected Him, of the sinfulness of the human race. Even people who regularly read the Bible tend to avoid reading Revelation because as they visualize the beasts and other imagery contained within its text, it conjures up the most horrible pictures in their minds. But this Book is not meant to be taken literally.1 The Book of Revelation is filled with strong visual images and symbolism, groups of seven appear repeatedly; numerology, imagery, metaphor, beasts, angels and trumpets are among the symbols in the Revelation to John.2 There are descriptions of the future of mankind and the planet. The Book recounts the decline of mankind and the hope that God offers with the return of his son, Jesus. Mankind has been deceived by a beast that looks like a lamb and follows it into the wicked ways of the first beast who blasphemes God. Man has indulged in judging others, in adultery, in seeking wealth without helping the less fortunate, in forsaking Gods love. Gods wrath brings upon the Earth disasters with each of the seven trumpets. Smoke, fire, earthquakes, floods, hail, darkness and plagues are cast upon the Earth.3 It seems as if God has forsaken the people allowing the "beast" to rule. In fact, this was said, "For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to give the beast their power to rule, until Gods words are fulfilled."4 The Revelation to John, however, also offers ...
