in Jerusalem (NIV, 1995). Isaiahs prophetic ministry spanned at least four decades and carried through the reigns of four kings: "Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah" (Bible Fellowship Union, 2006). His ministry is often broken into five periods: #1: The death of Uzziah to the beginning of Ahazs reign, from about 740 B.C. to about 735 B.C. (Bible Fellowship Union, 2006). #2: From the Syro-Ephraimite invasion of Judah in 735 B.C. to about 721 B.C. It was during this time period that Isaiah realized the "Syrio-Ephraimite conspiracy would be destroyed by the king of Assyria" (Bible Fellowship Union, 2006). Sadly, his prophecy to the people was ignored (Bible Fellowship Union, 2006). #3. These authors comment that this "period is marked by the strange absence of any record of Isaiahs reflections on the events with which it is associated, namely the fall of Samaria in 721 BC." (Bible Fellowship Union, 2006). #4. The reign of Hezekiah as king of Judah from 720 B.C. to 701 B.C. Hezekiah did not follow in his fathers, Ahazs, footsteps, instead, he attempted to disentangle Judah from the agreements his father had made with Tiglath-pileser (Bible Fellowship Union, 2006). #5. Sennarcherib attacks Jerusalem in 700 B.C. (Bible Fellowship Union, 2006). Prior to Isaiahs ministry as a prophet, Judah had become prosperous under the reign of king Uzziah who tended to assimilate the land with neighbors, who oppressed the poor and who, in general, disobeyed Gods Laws (Answers.com, 2007). The association with the Judahites had led them into adopting certain idols (Answers.com, 2007). Judah was situated between Israel and its enemies, Assyria and Egypt and acted as a shield (Answers.com, 2007).
