no exception. This is not surprising given the fact that multiethnic and multiracial societies have always presented numerous societal frictions and concerns in todays world. As a society
we tend to look more at differences than at similarities and then to blame our troubles on those that are the most different. The movie "The Blind Side", however,
goes a long way towards accurately presenting the American culture as it is represented by blacks and whites. Blacks, of course, have been historically oppressed in our country.
The impacts of that oppression are still being felt today (Marger, 2000). "The Blind Side" is the story of Michael, a
black youth who is living on the fringe of society. His mother is a crack addict and he and his many siblings have been put into the foster care
system. At the time of the movie Michael had been through several foster homes. Every time he had been placed he ran away. The system has failed
him and the youth is basically living on the streets. One dark and stormy night Michaels fate finally changes for the better.
The wealthy family of a white boy that has befriended him driving down the road and they notice him dripping wet and cold walking dejectedly down its side. They
stop and offer him a ride. When the mother learns that Michael really has no place to stay she offers to let him spend the night. That night
ultimately turns into many nights and, despite warnings that Michael could negatively impact their own childrens social life, the family permanently befriends him and allows him to stay at their
