the life of a young person and transform it, helping individuals to realize the promise that is inherent in their lives by bringing forth their talents and abilities. In this film, the Tuohy family takes in a young African American adolescent Michael Oher because Leigh Anne Tuohys compassionate heart goes out to him. The film is a study in contrasts, between the very rich and the very poor. The values of the African Americans pictured in the film are not that different from those of the affluent whites. It is obvious in the scene where Leigh Anne talks with Michaels mother that she loves her son, but it is also obvious that she has been worn down by poverty and drug addiction. The father who initially persuades Coach Burt Cotton to advocate for his son, Steve, and Michael Oher, who is known as "Big Mike," regarding admission to the private Christian school that the Tuohy children attend, also obviously loves his son and has concern for Big Mike. However, the norms, values, influence of religion and health beliefs that are most evident in the film are those of the Tuohy family. Leigh Anne first notices Big Mike when she sees her son, S.J., talking to him outside of school. S.J., which is short for "Sean Jr.," is a talkative youngster who is irrepressibly friendly and notices that the huge, hulking teenager is just trying to be friendly when says hello to some little girls who are on swings on the playground (and who subsequently leave and are obviously afraid of him). S.J. tell Michael that he should smile so they know hes friendly and introduces himself. Later, as the Tuohy family is leaving the school after seeing their daughter, Collins, ...
