and decimated much of the Old Roman Empire population. The following paper examines the two times and the cultures that experienced the plague. The Black Plague: The Roman
Empire and Europe As would well be expected, the people of the Old Roman Empire in the 6th century and the people of Europe in the 14th century were not
aware of science and medical knowledge that the world possesses today. In present times the world is well aware of the fact that the Black Plague is a condition that
can be treated with antibiotics. But in ancient times, even times not so ancient, many such diseases were seen and understood from a religious and mysterious perspective. Today it is
not as frightening a condition, even though it still exists in several states in the United States, because people understand medical science and know it is not a disease that
is without a cure. To understand how the people of the Old Roman Empire and Europe experienced and felt about the Black Plague is to really understand that it was
truly a mystery to them, and thus incredibly frightening. Both cultures, or time periods, were possessed of cultures that were very immersed in their religious beliefs. With the plague,
the Justinian Plague of the Old Roman Empire it began "in Ethiopia and then rapidly spread through Egypt, Palestine, and Constantinople and then on to Eastern Europe and parts of
