has done a lot of work on the theory of networks of many kinds, including everything from social networks (friends) to the World Wide Web to urban development to the
food chain (Andreas). In his book, Barabasi argues that all networks, no matter how different they may seem, can be analyzed using the same laws of mathematics (Andreas). This is
particularly useful in considering the way in which people connect with each other. If we consider all of the people in the world as part of a network we
can see how it might work. If we apply "random distribution in networks to the social world, then six billion humans (the nodes) should each have generally the same number
of friends (the links)" (Andreas). Obviously, this is not the case, which means that in the real world, networks are "not randomly distributed" (Andreas). . However, sociologists and economists began
to realize that real-world networks were not randomly distributed. In the late 1960s, Milgram performed his "famous six-degrees-of-separation experiment," which is popularly understood to mean that "anyone can be linked
to anyone else on Earth through only six links" (Andreas). This is incorrect; instead, what Milgram actually found was that there are a number of different configurations in this context,
including three links, 100 links or no links (Andreas). Some people "have such good links that they can get to someone far away with only three links" while others
have such poor links that they need 100 of them to get to someone else (Andreas). Finally, there are some people who have no links at all and no way
