the fundamental paradigm of the individual, making the theoretical issues irrelevant. However, examining the issue from an objective perspective reveals that the benefits of nuclear weapons truly are environmentally,
morally and politically sound, making them an important addition to our national arsenal. The debate over nuclear weapons became a public
issue with the dropping of the nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 (Webster). With this action the threat of nuclear destruction became real in the lives of
all citizens of the world (Webster). Adding to the ensuing hysteria over nuclear weapons were reports from scientists claiming that nuclear war between the superpowers would result in the
destruction of nearly all life on the planet - a theory that came to be known as "nuclear winter" (Webster). However, in the years since we have come to
learn much more about nuclear power and its uses (Webster). Therefore, we can now substantiate the responsible cultivation of nuclear power with science and technology, thus making the decision
to support nuclear weapons a responsible one. One of the chief arguments against nuclear weaponry is that it is morally repugnant
(Webster). This is typically argued by the same individuals who consider all forms of warfare morally repugnant, even while enjoying the immense freedoms that living in the United States
