life, that is, having lived 50 years, not old as yet, but certainly not young, to be satisfied with wherever they are intellectually or in their careers. However, I have
noted that these people do not generally continue to expand, grow, innovate or broaden their horizons. In other words, by being content and complacent with their lives, they take their
first steps toward old age, as a mind that does not continue to grow will atrophy and decline, no matter what your age. I have decided to pursue a
college education and a degree from Northern Virginia Community College because I look on the process of education as an adventure. As yet, I am not sure where this intellectual
journey will take me; however, I expect that my educational experience at NYCC will broaden my intellectual horizons by exposing me to new ideas, new people and their cultures, and
new information that will serve to improve my life and help me to achieve my full potential as a human being. Primarily, of course, I expect that my courses
at NVCC and the curriculum offered will provide me with new information--things I do not know and cannot imagine until I begin to explore the various subjects that will
be part of my degree program. Incorporated in this experience will be exposure to new ideas, which I am sure will both challenge my intellectual capabilities and also my
present preconceptions and assumptions about the world and how I interact with it. I know this to be true from my previous educational experience. At this point, when the
