experimentation is done on human beings, animals are the first to be utilized. The student concludes: "If this much needed process of experimenting were to (be) stopped it would devastate
the scientific community, the medical field, and the much needed research on diseases such as AIDS and cancer. Thus animal experimentation must continue for the sake of mankind." The student
is for animal experimentation but the only reason that a case has to be made is because there are many people against it. Why? While animal experimentation seems to be
an excellent way to glean new information without harming human beings, some people believe that animals have just as many rights as people, or a least, they should. There is
in face a lot of pressure from activists to cease using animals. For example, the March of Dimes was attacked but decided to keep doing its animal research because it
does help in preventing birth defects ("March," 2004). This is one example. Not too long ago, Revlon was boycotted because it experimented on animals to develop their mascara. Of course,
that point is well taken. No one needs mascara that badly. However, in the case of medical research, animal experimentation does save lives. Therefore, while it may do harm to
animals, it may be justified because of the potential good that may come out of it for the future of man. For instance, it is possible that an animal or
two may die, but in the long run, experiments can save thousands of lives. Yet, a position against animal research may be taken as many people have pets and treat
