Wars are fought and either lost or won. Sometimes, battles end but the desired outcome is somewhat of a mixed result. The Pearl Harbor incident, popularized by the
2001 film Pearl Harbor incited debates on the responsibility of America and problems with anti-Japanese sentiments. Another film called Culloden was released not too long ago. As the film
Culloden ended, the following remark was made: " Thus, within a century from Culloden, the English and the Scottish Lowlanders had made secure forever their religion, their commerce, their culture,
their ruling dynasty - and in so doing, had destroyed a race of people. They have created a desert - and have called it ... peace" (Culloden, 2001, p.PG). Yes,
there was a good defense provided against those that would restore power to a dynasty as they saw fit, and so English history endured unscathed. The Jacobites were defeated. But
why? Was it the skill of those providing the defense or was it just dumb luck? The Battle of Culloden in reality was
a battle of defeat that took place in 1746 involving the Jacobite rebel army of the British Prince Charles Edward Stuart and the Duke of Cumberland; the battle ended the
military challenge of the Jacobite rebellion ("Culloden, Battle," 1998, p.PG). Both sides were equal and the English had been a disciplined force, but the Jacobite had been a ragbag mixture
