a need for recognizing that other churches have objective fundamentals. Recognition has to do with working for unity among the many different Christian sects, or cells, as Tillard refers to
them. This unity must be Spirit-driven and not one that is forced to go along with the group. Tillard explains: "It is essentially a matter of the work of the
Holy Spirit acting in and through the ecclesiality of each group" (p. ix). Lacking this unity, there can be no universal reconciliation. Tillard refers to this disunity as a scandal
that must be overcome. Tillard goes on to say that each Christian group must identify the elements that make it different than the other groups, what separates them. if there
is to be true unity, churches must turn towards others rather than away from the others. Tillard explains there are two sides to this recognition. The first side looks inside
ones own church to and determine if your own church life can be recognized as expressing "the mind of Christ or the mind of the church" (p. xx). It is
important to repeat this: is the church life following Christ or is it following the church. The second side is to look outward and explore whether other churches can be
recognized in terms of what they profess to be the truth. Churches need to be in harmony with Scripture. This is also part of recognition because whether it is ones
own church or another church, each needs to be aligned with and following Scripture. Tillard asserts that churches have a long way to go before they are doing so. Chapter
