better collaboration, communication and general information sharing is more important than ever before. This is more than an economic crisis and involves more than just getting the numbers right. The international community needs to focus on the human crisis as well in order to improve the lives of those suffering the most. A two-day meeting convened by the World Bank came during the 1998 Bank Fund Annual Meetings. There was a call for donors, government officials and civic groups to assess the situation among these groups and to become unified in an effort to address the current needs towards the problems affecting so many lives in Asia. The World Bank released a draft of the problem in order to cover key issues raised for discussion. Some of the most serious problems are those of unemployment, health costs and low attendance at schools. Currency is worth only a fraction of the pre-crisis value, and increased health costs and prescription drug prices are prohibitive for most people. Because of the enormity of the crisis there is a greater need for a clearinghouse for information, which would combine data, work and experiences on a common network of knowledge. One goal of the World Bank is the creation of an electronic network in which all the organizations in the region would share their knowledge and data and pinpoint their most urgent needs (M2 Press Wire 1999).
