has accumulated over his 94 years of life as well as revealing his incredible artistic vision. This unusual artist has, throughout his long life, used his art primarily to
enrich his own life and that of his friends. He was one of those rare artists who not only refused to sell his works but was also reluctant to exhibit
them. Therefore, this extraordinary film is, in essence, presenting Jankays work to the public at large for the first time. In the film, Jankay explained his attitude. He compared selling
his paintings to being asked to sell ones children. He pointed out that if someone asked you to sell your child, youd be shocked. Similarly, Jankay has the same feeling
when asked if he would sell one of his paintings. He commented that he doesnt paint a picture to sell it, he paints it just to be doing it?to
bring something to life. By bringing forth his vision in the form of art, he feels alive. One an easily see that his active emotional involvement with his art has
aided Jankay in obtaining such a long and fulfilling life. This is substantiated by the fact that the vast majority of Jankays work is positive and joyful. Although some of
his work deals with his horrific experiences at the hands of the Nazi, the emphasis in Jankays life and in the film are on positive forces. The film
uses the horror that Jankay has known in his life primarily as a backdrop that gives depth and emphasis to the life that he created for himself in California after
