city. Never boring, the range of architectural examples is limitless, mirroring the city itself. In this way then, the architecture of Birmingham is a reflection of the people
themselves, and their different tastes, styles, backgrounds and dreams. How the Architecture of Birmingham Reflect the Character of the City In
terms of Birmingham itself, the city is indeed one which is very vibrant but has never held a reputation for being exactly sophisticated (The Birmingham Thing, 2003). In fact,
the people of Birmingham are often regarded as simple, whether or not this is actually the case (The Birmingham Thing, 2003). For instance, unlike London Birmingham is typically considered
slower, less cultured, and less fashionable (The Birmingham Thing, 2003). Some even claim the architecture of the city to be monstrous, often citing "high rise monstrosities" as the crux
of their argument (The Birmingham Thing, 2003). And yet, what city which has evolved from the days of the Romans couldnt cite a plethora of styles, some of which
may appear unsuitable to the mix. I contend that Birmingham has no more "ugly" or "monstrous" buildings than the next city, and has their considerable share of trophies besides.
In fact, Birmingham is a veritable showplace of architectural styles and buildings from some of the most talented architects in the world, giving rise to the necessity of re-evaluating
any scornful judgments. Perhaps the best way to determine how the culture of Birmingham is reflected in the architecture (and vice versa)
