desire to compete and perform well has driven many athletes to push themselves beyond previous attempts. World records are constantly broken and the speed of the athletes is constantly increases.
For some athletes the desire to achieve is so great that they are prepared to risk their health, and in some cases their lives by the use of drugs which
are unregulated by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration). The actual benefit of these drugs to athletic sports is highly questionable in
the first place, they have be shown to be instrumentally in developing muscle density for some sports such as weight lifting, but the benefits for erogenic sports is limited at
best (King et al 2020). This has not stopped athletes and potential athletes using steroids in the belief that they will enhance performance (Kashkin 3166). It is not only the
professional athletes that will subject themselves to these risks, but also many amateurs (Pediatrics 904). The use of steroids in sports for non medical use was first seen in the
United States in the 1950s (King et al 2020). At first it was in the strength sports such as weight lifting, but soon spread to other agility and speed sports
(King et al 2020). The use was not only limited to adults, as an increasing tend has also been the increased use of anabolic steroids in adolescents (Pediatrics 904).
The steroids can be taken in different ways, either orally or by injection into a muscle (Pediatrics 904). Some of the most popoular and easy to get hold of steroids
