those seafarers who operated under less than honorable or legal conditions. Donald Barr Chidsey (1902 - 1981) was a prolific writer producing dozens of both historical fiction and historical accounts
of American history, as well as approximately 60 magazine articles and short stories for such venerable American publications such as Argosy, The Saturday Evening Post, and Detective Fiction Weekly. Just
a few of his many book titles include: Captain Crossbones (1958). The Naked Sword (1959), Valley Forge (1959) Singapore Passage (1956), Reluctant Cavalier (1960), The Battle of New Orleans (1961),
The Siege of Boston (1966), The Wars in Barbary (1971). The titles should serve as enough of an example to the student reading Chidseys book where the authors particular
