by Rob Reiner in 1995 and starring Michael Douglas and Annette Bening is a charming romantic comedy with a storyline that would be any presidents nightmare: the widower president falls
in love with an intelligent, witty lobbyist with the entire world looking on. This is an enjoyable film with a good twist on the ideas of both romance and the
government. Michael Douglas is in the starring role as the President of the United States, and after being in office for three years he begins to consider dating
someone. But who should he fall for but a sharp environmental lobbyist named Sydeney Ellen Wade, played admirably by Annette Bening. The two begin a romance but of
course his being the President causes some rather unique problems for the unlikely romance. A Libyan bombing interrupts their first kiss, but that is only the beginning as they continue
trying to make their romance work. Of course there is the antagonist, a Republican Senator ably played by Richard Dreyfuss, who is continually lecturing about family values and morals.
There is the predictable turn of events in which the President winds up defending his country and his lady, but all in all the movie is an entirely enjoyable
and well-thought out film. This film makes us ask the question, however, about whether our United States Presidents truly have personal lives? Should they have lives apart from the
American public, even though they are the first and foremost protector of our nation? Determining whether or not private morality should be a component of political leadership is not
