were actually a number of major factors that were intertwined and led to the war between the North and South. The differences between these two regions, based not only
in slavery, but also in economic elements, and major constructs of emerging industrialization and immigration all lent a hand in designing divisions between the North and South. But perhaps
one of the most fundamental issues that determined the perceived need for war was the election of Abraham Lincoln as President in 1860. Though Lincoln himself was not an
Abolitionist, the Republican party which he represented had a radical wing that led the anti-South sentiments and demonstrated an almost immediate division between the federal government and the emerging southern
political coalition that would design the Confederacy. The era leading to the Civil War was riddle with conflict between the Southern agrarian states and the Northern developing states that
were focusing greater attention towards industrial development and urbanization, including a definitive focus on international trade. Prior to the 19th century, most of the individuals who immigrated into the
United States were either British or slaves, but during the mid 1800s, there was a considerable influx of immigrants from through out Europe. The result was a booming industrial
sector, and increase in the population of immigrants in urban regions, and a focus on immigrant workers as a low-wage based staple of the Northern economies. At the
same time, the Southern states had developed their agrarian system and also focused considerably on trade, but primarily the trade of their agricultural products through out the world. Their
primary labor force was slave labor and they had little concern for the emerging immigrant populations because they had no need for immigrant labor based on the inherent designs of
