paper provides a book review and analysis of "The Alpine Escape." The Alpine Escape In first examining Mary Daheims novel we present a brief synopsis, though the entire plot
will not be revealed as that is the duty of the student requesting this paper. Emma Lord, at the time this book takes place, is now forty-two years of age.
She is a successful newspaper woman and at this point in her life is tired and feels she really needs a break, a vacation. She wants time off from her
profession to essentially do some soul searching. As she heads out to "find herself," so to speak, her Jaguar breaks down. But her old Jag breaks down and she
is essentially stranded. She finds herself stranded in the Pacific Northwest, in Washington, in a town call in Port Angeles. We quickly see that Emma will find no time to
search her soul and find some sort of peace. This is because she finds herself immersed in the mystery of a skeleton. This happens when "Emma has problems getting" her
Jag "fixed, so she calls the daughter of a friend of hers" (The Alpine Escape (Paperback) by Daheim, Mary R.). When she goes to her friends in this area they
have discovered a skeleton in their basement. Emma is now enlisted to help in this mystery. As the story unfolds we discover that the bones of this dead person
actually belong to a young woman, whose identity is unknown. And, we note that this young woman was buried in a decaying mansion almost 100 years ago. They find a
