well as present, seem to revolve around the subject of religion. In one way or another religion has always appeared to play at least a small role in warfare. However,
there was a time when it seemed that every single war present was one that was founded on religious beliefs, religious standards, and the struggle to put others under the
power of a particular religion, whether subtly or blatantly. In Richard Dunns book "The Age of Religious Wars" he brings us very specific wars, and many different social and political
conditions, which took place between 1559 and 1715, starting with the end of Reformation and ending with the balance of power in the 18th century. In the following paper we
review and critique his work, indicating that it is a very well thought out and organized look at many of the conflicts which plagued the world from the middle of
the 16th century to the beginning of the 18th century, all of which have some foundation in religious beliefs of one kind or another. The Age of Religious
Wars In the first chapter, titled "Calvinism versus Catholicism in Western Europe," Dunn begins by stating that "In the Spring of 1559, convoys from Philip II of Spain and Henry
II of France met on neutral ground in the bishops palace...to arrange a peace treaty between their respective masters...they both needed peace" (p. 11). In addition, the two had the
serious issue of the spread of Protestantism that was threatening both France and Spain. Dunn indicates that some regions seemed to come to terms with the struggle between the Catholics
and the Protestants, while others found civil unrest and battle raging. He states that "The truce between the Protestants and the Catholics in the Holy Roman Empire, established in 1555
