exercised has been argued as having been paralleled by the Soviet Union in the twentieth centaur, in the way power was created and then used. However by looking more closely
at Louis XIV it become apparent that the power was used in different ways with different aims. The Soviet Union was a communist state, which although corrupt operated under the
fa?ade of the interests of the people. Louis XIV was an absolute ruler, all actions were for his glory and the glory of France. It was only though that there
would be any manifestation of interest for the people themselves. However, many of the results were similar, But despite this is may be argued that Louse XIV was good for
France in the long term, where as Soviet policies were not as successful for the country. Both regimes saw the power taken form the powerbase. In the Soviet Union
this was way form the ruling classes though the military and the party, in France there was no such fa?ade. Louise XIV was an absolute ruler, he kept his nobles
living at court and as such their power base was impotent as they lacked independence ands resources that would have been available to them had they remained in their chateaus.
In effect the nobles were pawns and satellites of the King, with the country controlled through an effect civil service, and although through a military force where necessary. This itself
may be seen as similar in the Soviet Union, bureaucracy is an effective form of control, as is military might. This also acts as a till to deny power and
