This paper is a letter from a mother to Lissa Weinstein thanking her for sharing her experience. Discussion Thank you so much for writing Reading David. You will never know how much it helped me to read of your background. I hope it doesnt sound strange or heartless of me, but it actually helped me to know that a professional person who deals with learning disabilities on a daily basis, and who is expert enough to teach them, had difficulty with her own child. If a professor of clinical psychology specializing in learning disabilities can be upset and feel useless in the face of her sons diagnosis, then I know that anyone can be unhappy. Im very lucky because all three of my children are healthy. But even though I cant say I know what its like to have to deal with a child with a learning disability, I know the anxiety of wondering if Im doing enough for my children, and if there is a way to do more. These issues were really bothering me until I read your book. I was especially moved by your frustration, and the way you felt that all your education and training was useless to you in this situation. I like the way you expressed your feelings, saying that you thought that you should have been more prepared than most parents to deal with Davids dyslexia, because you work in the field.
