One of the most threatening of these mechanisms, however, is exposure as a result of terrorism. The ever growing threat of bioterrorism invokes a number of concerns regarding the
protection of public heath. Implementing procedures to contain suspicious materials is the first step in reducing the severity of the consequences of that exposure. Unfortunately, when terrorists resort
to using biological or chemical weapons they are usually not considerate enough to attach labels identifying the substance that they have released. As a consequence our first reactions to
such terrorist acts are initially generic rather than specific. By working through various fictional scenarios involving biochemical agents we can better plan for real events. The intent of
this paper is to work through one such scenario. The possibility of exposure to either biological or chemical substances has become almost a
certainty in a scenario involving an inbound flight from oversees that has been hijacked by terrorists. Although the hijackers have been subdued by a U.S. Marshal, six suspicious containers
have been discovered and one of those containers has been compromised. Passengers and crew who were nearest the containers have developed several very concerning symptoms. Those symptoms include
skin blisters, eye irritation, respiratory problems including bloody nose, vomiting and diarrhea. Obviously, many of the individuals in this scenario have
been exposed to some sort of toxic substance and that exposure is most likely linked to the canisters that have been discovered onboard. Toxins can enter our bodies through
a number of mechanisms. A portion of those toxins are absorbed and have the potential to cause numerous problems. This process is determined not just by the nature
