the Middle East and they are at odds. Most of the religions are biblical and the most well known conflict is on the West Bank and this involves both land
and religion. Here, the Palestinians hold that the land on which they live is theirs but legally, and effectively, Israel claims ownership. This holy land is very important to both
groups. Israel was awarded the land for the Jews in part because they had nowhere to go after the Holocaust. Religion is of course at the crux of much of
what occurs in the region. Yet, neither religion tolerates the other as being correct. There are also other religions in the region aside from Islam and Judaism that creates conflict.
Another element that adds to the conflict is water. A significant issue are water resources found at the Jordan River Basin ("Waternet," 2005). Water is scarce and so this has
also become an issue of significance in the Middle East. When looking at the Middle East, and acknowledging the conflicts, one cannot help but focus on terrorism as a mechanism
for change. Terrorism has been at the crux of much conflict of late. Israel for example has taken the brunt of much terrorist activity. Young people who may take a
bus, or go to a discotheque, find themselves in danger. The people live in this manner and it is similar to what had gone on in Ireland for many decades.
The notorious IRA had committed many terrorist acts in the name of religion. Today, the IRA is disbanded, or at least subdued. In any event, while there are regional differences
between Ireland and the Middle East, it pays to take a look at the IRA. At the crux of the problem is funding. After all, terrorist organizations cannot run
