Terrorism is often associated with affecting people other than ourselves. Terrorist acts, however, have become more common around the world in the past few decades. "We", of
course, are not exempt from these acts. The Oklahoma Bombing incident first spelled out that message to the Americans. It was soon to be reemphasized with the Olympic
Park bombing. Even London has received relatively recent reminders that the Western World is not exempt from terrorism. These three incidents and, indeed, terrorism as a whole, have
one important commonality. If we can educate ourselves to recognize that fact then it is quite possible that, in the long run at least, we may be able to
remedy the problem of terrorism. In the United States the first thing that comes to mind when we think of terrorism
is the September 11, 2001 destruction of the World Trade Center and the simultaneous attack on the Pentagon itself. While 9-11 marked the greatest loss of human life to
terrorism that this country has ever experienced, it was not the first nor certainly the last terrorist act that would go down in our history books. The 1995 bombing
of the Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City and the 1996 Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta are two more particularly notable acts. In Europe, of course, terrorism has been
