Brain injuries can result in tremendous impacts to mental function and even physical performance. The brain is an extremely complex part of
the body, a part that controls most aspects of our physiology. It sends the electronic impulses that result in motor reflexes, it cause hormones and other chemical substances to
the various components of our body and these control such things as emotions. The brain is composed of several distinct regions such as the temporal lobe, the parietal lobe,
and the medulla oblongata and these control specific parts of our body. These brain regions in themselves, of course, are composed of several sub regions and the exact nature
of the physiological result of an injury would depend on the nature of the injury and the precise region impacted. The
medial temporal lobe of the brain is comprised, in part, of the hippocampus and entorhinal and perirhinal cortex (Naya and Suzuki 773). This area of the brain is particularly
important in regard to memory and the temporal order of that memory. Naya and Suzuki (773) report, for example, that the hippocampus region of the medial temporal lobe
is responsible for generating incremental timing signals when stimuli is presented to the subject. The perirhinal cortex, in turn, functions to signal the conjunction of these stimuli and the
