neighborhood hitting each other playfully and wonder whether or not this kind of behavior is influenced by TV. When a crime is committed, such as Columbine-people look to television and
film to see if there are similarities in the acts. After Columbine occurred, people claimed that the Harris and Klebold were imitating something that happened from The Basketball Diaries. Although
this claim was unfounded, it seems that people do notice that violence that is woven into todays media is linked with aggression in children. From the viewpoint of a psychologist,
the link between television viewing and aggression is rather obvious. So many theories, such as Social Learning Theory, play a role in explaining why this is the case. Even on
a common sense level, it is noted that when someone witnesses something, their emotions are triggered and they are likely to change. Someone watches a sad television show and feels
"depressed" or someone watches a couple fight on the Dr. Phil Show and begins to bicker with her husband. Of course, when it comes to witnessing violence, there is a
fear that the exposure to such things is enough to trigger violent behavior. In some instances, it is. Several studies have shown that television can have an immediate impact
on children and spark aggression (Guerin and Hennessy 10). The fact that indeed, violent shows can cause someone to become aggressive right away is astounding. Yet, the main worry is
that over time, after being exposed to numerous violent acts throughout childhood, aggression in children is more likely. Studies do support this notion. One study for example has mentioned that
