youth experiences--the problem of violence appears to get worse with each successive generation. Because Gen-X and the up and coming Generation Y are more involved in this medium due to
advances in technology, the lowered cost of televisions, wider access to greater programming possibilities as well as the utilization of this electronic device as a substitute "babysitter," television often gets
the blame for changes in mores. While television certainly contributes to the delinquency of Americas children, one cannot blame television for social changes exclusively. The cliche that art reflects
society is relevant here. Certainly other factors in society contribute to what Hollywood comes up with for their new Fall seasons. Yet, in looking at research on the subject, one
can hardly exclude the medium as the menace that many make it out to be. Society is in fact more violent but television with its Monday Night Football, news
magazine exposes, Jerry Springer and cohorts, Cops and fictionalized dramas that play up violence in society, is clearly contributory. Certainly, the top television hits often include violence. The NTVS Research
Team found that reality violence is more prevalent during the evening hours ("Television Violence" PG). It is true that many violent programs are purposely put on the air later in
the day when children are purportedly asleep. The problem is that teenagers are notorious night owls and tend to turn the television on just when the violent fare erupts. The
influence on teenagers is at issue. While in the past, delinquent teens were dealt with by truant officers, todays adolescents go beyond simple truancy or petty theft. Children are killing
one another and the blame for that is often attributed to television violence. II. Research on the Relationship Between Television and Violence Much research on this subject
