tendency to simply believe everything the news tells us. We think that their duty, and obligation, is to simply inform us about the facts so that we can make our
own decisions about the events that are taking place. The problem, however, is that the television news is highly biased in most cases. With that in mind the following paper
examines the condition of television news today, discussing whether it is good or bad. Television News One author notes that, "No matter how much we may try to
ignore it, human communication always takes place in a context, through a medium, and among individuals and groups who are situated historically, politically, economically, and socially. This state of affairs
is neither bad nor good. It simply is" (Cline, 2003). As such a certain amount of bias is bound to exist in television news. We note that "Politicians are certainly
biased and overtly so. They belong to parties and espouse policies and ideologies" (Cline, 2003). Journalists are also generally very political in one aspect or another and as such their
reporting will be somewhat biased. "The journalistic ethics of objectivity and fairness are a strong influence on the profession. But journalistic objectivity is not the pristine objectivity of philosophy" (Cline,
2003). In more recent times we hear that many of the journalists today are liberals and as such are biased in how they present the news. At the same
time, however, many argue that "journalists often do what they do without reflecting upon the meaning of the premises and assumptions that support their practice" (Cline, 2003). In other words,
