Homers Odyssey is often considered to be a story of one mans struggle to return home, it is also a story of one sons determination to find his father and
be reunited with his father. The character of Odysseus son, Telemachus, is one that is determined, honest, curious, and honorable. He is, like many young men, seeking his place in
the world. And, through seeking his place in the world he must find his father and discover who his father is, and thus obtain the tools that will enable him
to face the world. In the following paper we examine the character of Telemachus. The paper first examines how we see him in the beginning of the story and then
moves on to examine what traits he possesses that relate to the role of men in todays society. Lastly the paper examines how the character of Odysseus compares or contrasts
with his son. Telemachus In the beginning of the story we see Telemachus as a very young and inexperienced man. He is troubled by the numerous suitors who
plague his household, seeking out the hand of Penelope in marriage. He is urged, by Athena in disguise, to handle the suitors like a man. At this point we see
Telemachus taking his first step towards responsibility and manhood. "Telemachus calls an assembly of the men of Ithaca. It is the first assembly that has been called since Odysseus left,"
presenting us with a powerful understanding that Telemachus is not adverse to taking action (Anonymous The Odyssey odyssey.html). He is, however, unsure of himself: "Telemachus announces that he will tolerate
