While periods of sadness are normal and healthy in ones life, depression is an extreme which can often lead to serious and tragic results. Depression has many signs and
symptoms but depression often goes undiagnosed because people are ashamed to admit they have a problem and also because the symptoms can be signs of so many other conditions as
well. Causes of Depression There are many types and causes of depression but major depression is characterized by a combination of symptoms (Types and Causes of Depression). In
the case of major depression these symptoms interfere with "the ability to work, study, sleep, eat, and enjoy once pleasurable activities" (Types and Causes of Depression). Typically, people who
experience major depression will experience it more than once in their lifetime (Types and Causes of Depression). The general rule is that major depression repeats itself several times throughout
