raising children. Teens in general but younger adolescents in particular have not developed to the point where they can connect current behavior to future consequences (Brown, 2007). That is, its
entirely possible for a girl not to connect having sex with getting pregnant; the inability to "perceive future consequences of current behavior is called cognitive immaturity" (Brown, 2007). Teens also
tend to have a "personal myth"; a sense of their own invulnerability that they believe gives them "special protection from risky behaviors and that bad consequences wont happen to them
(Brown, 2007). They have not yet developed the same skills in judgment that adults have, which means that teen parents cannot be considered the same way we consider adults who
have children. In the home: Many teen parents are still living with their parents (the childs grandparents), which means that they are often caught "in the middle" between being expected
to obey their parents, and caring for the child. If the baby is a "scandal," the relations between parents and the teen parent will be strained: "Well my dad, he
was not fond of the idea. We didnt talk for a couple of months and my mom ... ended up passing out when she found out. It brought my mom
and I closer but my dad and I, were not close any more at all" ("Melinda"). Because this girl is living at home, her parents are being forced into babysitting,
and they resent it, to the point where they are telling her she cannot go out; they have to have the baby all day and refuse to deal with her
