of age are teen parents (Statistics Canada, 2008), school-based child care programs are instrumental in keeping teen parents active and productive members of society so they do not become a
drain on taxpayer resources (Batten, 1996). Child care is not merely a place for teen parents to dump their children while they are
at school all day; rather, it is an environment of inspiration, motivation and understanding. Where else can a toddler come into contact with so many various stimulants of creativity,
imagination and maturation than in such a positive environment? This is why school-based child care programs for teen parents has gained momentum as a twofold advantage: As adolescent mothers
and/or fathers earn their high school diplomas, their infants are receiving the nurturing and stimulating interaction they need for healthy emotional development. This partnership is a critical component in
the quest to stop young parents from spiraling down the path of socioeconomic destruction by becoming caught in the cyclical web of low-paying, unskilled, dead end jobs. When school-based
child care are not available, Head Start programs step in to give children of teen parents specialized support. Young parent programs provide young parents with an opportunity to enhance
