By using an example of an organization in the hospitality industry, an accounting department will provide some good information on how technology impacts employees. In the hospitality industry, as in any industry, the primary objective in embracing technology and having a positive outcome, is to make sure that employees are well versed in the new hardware and software a company may acquire. There is nothing worse than to invest in new software and find that employees are unable to complete their tasks due to the change. While employees often resist change, it is important to upgrade systems, but it is also important to train workers so that they can understand new system technology and be able to perform their designated functions. This is particularly applicable in the accounting department. In accounting, many things changed from year to year and companies must be in compliance with new tax laws and other changes that require the updating systems. Accounting departments may also want to update systems to add some sophistication to the operation. As time goes on, more intricate systems will become available. Many technologies that Xeta designed for the hospitality industry, for example, are used by businesses and institutions in order to track the long-distance phone calls of employees (Nascenzi, 2003).
