Group members work in a variety of settings. Two work for county Human Services departments; one is in the mortgage industry; another is in grocery retail. As could
be expected, all depend on information technology to perform the duties their jobs encompass. Functional Areas There are a variety of functional areas
represented. The automated mortgage solution enables mortgage originators to find information on those seeking mortgages, and it also provides information on properties in all classes, whether residential or commercial.
The product is software installed on individual computers; the vendor also offers an Internet-based version. Data storage, data management, loss protection and
real-time inventory management are the primary functional areas of IT use at an independent grocery store. This one-location retail operation lacks the breadth of IT support present at either
the mortgage company or county offices, but it provides most of the services the business needs except a central repository for employee information.
The two county offices represented in the group share the same types of applications and in several cases the same applications. Both county offices use applications originating at the
state level, such as MEDS and SFIS, a Statewide Fingerprint Imaging System. MEDS is a database application holding client information where clients are recipients of public assistance. MEDS
also has the ability to interface with other governmental agencies and departments at all levels of government, including Social Security, Employment Development, Fleeing Felon Database and the Federal Tax Bureau.
