and feel about what they saw. Our country has gone from a market economy through an industrial revolution into an information age and a global economy. Even within the
past generation the changes which have taken place have been astounding. The development of computers has literally changed the world yet again and will likely continue to do so
for the foreseeable future. Yet, it is important to remember that as with all change, there are effects. People react when things change. Through the years many of
the changes in society in terms of technology have been for the better and have benefited society while other technological advances have been less desirable and have caused trepidation on
the part of society as a whole. Then, there are those technological advances which have been beneficial to one aspect of society while at the same time detrimental to
another aspect of society. It is important then to examine some of the technological achievements of the past couple of centuries in terms of how they have effected the
people in American society. Have people generally adapted well to change or have there been misgivings. These are important issues to examine as the future is likely to
continue to change at a rapid pace. Americans Response to Technology Through the Ages Prior to the Industrial Revolution was the
