and few thought it would be used for entertainment. For fun, people would go outside of their homes to a movie as home theater was not commonplace and there were
no chat rooms. Today, people shop online, work online, and communicate with friends and family via e-mail, a trend that has revolutionized entertainment and communications. That said, one question looms
large. Are these technological advances identical with human progress? Some would certainly validate that statement and say that of course, human progress is measured by its advancements in technology but
others would say that this notion is ridiculous and that it is rather arrogant to suggest this to be the case. To truly answer the question, one must look at
the definition of the term progress. That holds the key to truly comparing progress with technological advance. Felton (2002) for example says that " it seems reasonable to assume that
"progress" has something to do with the advancement of human knowledge, understanding, or well-being. " Here, the term progress is seen as being equated with knowledge which one can align
with technological progress, but of course, knowledge goes beyond technology. It might include knowledge about psychology or religion for example that has nothing to do with any sort of technological
progress. Understanding is a concept that falls within the parameter of technological change, but understanding is again something that falls within a broader category. Finally, well-being can be
equated with technological advances but well-being is something that is generally thought to be separate and apart from technology. An individual has a sense of well-being that is generally not
