artistic sensibilities have greatly influenced the design of vehicles over the decades, a fact that is obvious when one compares antique and contemporary models of vehicles. The field of architecture,
however, is unique, in that it represents one of the most important intersections of art and technology; in any given architectural project, both artistic and technological considerations must be taken
into account. The cultural value of an architectural work is largely determined by its beauty and aesthetic sensibilities. By contrast, the structure value and utility of an architectural work is
determined largely by the technological processes and materials that were utilized in the construction. Because of this, the architect cannot consider these two elements of art and technology as being
separate from one another; rather, he or she must strive to achieve a functional synthesis that unites both art and technology within one cohesive design. In order for this to
be possible, one must have a deep understanding of how art influences technology, and how technology influences art in the form of structure, function, and aesthetics. This paper will explore
how the evolution of technology has influenced the evolution of architectural style, intention, and function, by analyzing key differences in two similar structures from different periods of time: the Campanile
at St. Marks Basilica in Venice, Italy, and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. This paragraph helps the student begin to introduce the example of the Campanile in Venice.
