has undergone a tremendous revolution over the last forty years. Studios today are far removed from those that recorded the voices of stars like Elvis, The Beatles, and The
Mamas and The Papas. During the 1960s these stars and others were saved for future generations using four-track tape recorders, an antiquated approach first invented in 1949 which pales
in comparison to the twenty-four track equipment which dominates the industry today (The Economist, 1996). The digital revolution has indeed infiltrated the recording studio. The technology for Signal
Inputs, Signal Conditioning, Sound Recording Equipment, Mixers, and Signal Outputs as well as practically every other critical element has changed in the recording studio.
The changes which have occurred the forty years since the popular music explosion of the late 1950s and early 1960s have occurred due to a variety of factors.
The most obvious of these is the increased demand for sensitive equipment and a cost-effective recording process. The other obvious reason for this evolution is the technological revolution
which has occurred in the world in general. While much of this revolution has been spurred by the entertainment industry, much has been inspired by factors as diverse as
computer, military, and medical applications. Signal Output
At the forefront of the evolution which has occurred in the audio recording studio is the signal output capabilities which are now available. Many of these
developments can be attributed to the computer industry but fields such as medicine which needed more efficient and faster means of data retrieval and sending can be credited as well.
