in the fact that Elio appears to be a small company with limited resources. Their attempt to enter a mature market with a proprietary product led to some difficulties.
The lesson to be learned from this example is that a small company has to plan well before attempting to enter the marketplace; it appears that Elio was still debating
its choices when it should have been gearing up to begin selling its product. There are options available that the company should have considered and accepted or rejected long
before they did. First they might consider entering the market as a second or third tier manufacturer rather than an OEM. This means that they wouldnt sell directly
to the major companies, but to another company who sold to Ford or GM; or they might even be further down the chain: GM bought from A who bought
from B who bought from Elio. Second, they have to accept that they are undercapitalized, and look for financing. They might have considered entering a joint venture or licensing
their product to a company in a better position to market it. Finally, they must understand that the company that invents a product often receives less profit from it
that companies that imitate the original and enter the market later (de Haviland had a passenger jet before Boeing, but who today remembers the Comet?) Elio has to be
